From College Crush to Coastal Forever
Lydea and Roberto’s love story began in 2017, during a college internship in San Francisco. What started as friendly hangouts between upstairs and downstairs neighbors quickly turned into something more. Lydea made a deal with herself—if she still had a crush on Roberto in two weeks, she’d ask him out. But fate intervened, and a few days later, he beat her to it. And just like that, the slow burn turned into the beginning of forever.

A Dream Ceremony on Kiawah Island
Choosing Kiawah Island for their wedding was deeply personal. With Lydea’s parents living there part-time and most of their guests coming from the East Coast, it struck the perfect balance between destination and home. The Ocean Course at Kiawah provided a breathtaking backdrop for a celebration that was both elegant and emotionally rich. Many guests turned it into a vacation of their own, an unforgettable springtime escape to coastal South Carolina.

The Dresses, The Moment, The Magic
Lydea’s bridal journey began with a clear goal: she wanted that iconic “Say Yes to the Dress” experience. After discovering Mon Amie, a luxury bridal boutique in California, she booked a private, four-hour appointment determined to find her dream dress. Her sister-in-law pulled a gown off the rack that checked every single box. That was the one.
But Lydea wasn’t done. She always knew she wanted two looks. Her second outfit, featuring pants, was designed with one thing in mind: freedom to dance. From fashion-forward to functionally fabulous, every piece reflected her personal style.
Color, Emotion, and Pastel Perfection
The couple’s very first planning decision was a color palette, and it became the foundation for every design choice that followed. From invitations to linens, everything was intentionally cohesive. The florals were bursting with springtime pastels, meticulously curated by the team at @festooncharleston.
Even though Lydea and Roberto had reviewed countless mockups and layouts from their planners at @andersoneventdesign, seeing the reception tent in real life was a moment they’ll never forget. It surpassed every expectation.
The Moment That Took Her Breath Away
There are a thousand special moments in every wedding, but for Lydea, one stands apart. Just after the ceremony, as she and Roberto walked up the aisle as husband and wife, she was overcome with pure joy, laughing, crying, and completely euphoric.
Another unforgettable moment: walking down the aisle with her father. As the doors opened, her eyes welled up with joyful disbelief. After years of dreaming, the moment was finally here.
The Energy, The People, The Weekend Vibe
The aesthetic of the weekend? Coastal springtime, through and through. With a pastel floral story and modern seaside accents, the weekend was the perfect blend of southern charm and polished sophistication.
Behind the scenes, @andersoneventdesign led an incredible team of creatives, from @meghanbaskin capturing every frame to @dreamdaycharleston setting the tone. The result was a celebration that felt like a true extension of Lydea and Roberto.
Advice for Destination Brides
Lydea’s top tip: hire a planner who knows your venue inside and out. Their familiarity with the space and its logistics is invaluable, especially when you’re planning remotely. Trust their vendor connections and insights. They’ll save you time, stress, and guesswork.
Marriage & Meaning
Though Lydea and Roberto had already lived together for years, marriage has brought a deeper sense of emotional connection. One that exceeded even her highest expectations. “These first few months have been a dream,” she shares.
“I feel like I’m exactly where I’m meant to be.”
Roberto, she says, is everything she could ask for in a life partner, and more.
