The First 5-Carat Diamond I Ever Sold

Updated: Sep 5, 2025

How one woman’s trust gave me the courage to keep going , and how her daughter brought the story full circle 20 years later.

“I’m looking for a 5-carat diamond. Can you find me one?”

She asked so casually, but inside, I was nervous.

Scared, actually.

It was my first month in the jewelry market. I was barely making any sales. My confidence was low, and I was still figuring everything out.

But something about her felt warm. We connected instantly. She was kind, elegant, and full of life. She told me it was her 50th birthday, and she wanted to buy herself a 5-carat diamond to celebrate.

She had a budget in mind and was checking every jewelry store in town to find something that matched it.

Deep down, I knew what she was asking for was close to impossible with her budget, but I didn’t let that stop me.

I told her:

“I’ll get it for you.”

She smiled and left. And I got to work, fast.

The Search Begins

I started calling every single vendor I knew in Los Angeles.

Then I called my contacts in Texas.

Then I called every single jeweler I had met in the short time I’d been in the business.

I made multiple trips to downtown L.A.

Back and forth, searching, learning, pushing through every “no” and every “maybe.”

Finally, I found something, a 5-carat diamond that fit her budget.

The color was on the lower side, but it had a strong blue fluorescence, which made the face of the stone look very white and absolutely beautiful. It had sparkle, presence, and character, just like her.

I sent her the photos. She trusted me. And she bought the diamond.

The Sale That Changed Me

I was 26 years old, just two months into my business.

That sale changed everything.

Not because of the money. But because of what it showed me:

• That people were willing to trust me.

• That I was capable of finding solutions.

• That I could make things happen, even when they looked impossible.

She invited me, my husband, and my mom to her 50th birthday party. We celebrated together. We stayed friends. Her trust became one of the foundations of my belief in myself as a businesswoman.

A Full Circle Moment

Nearly 20 years later, I got a phone call.

It was her daughter, now grown, looking for a diamond of her own.

She remembered the story. She remembered the trust.

Last year, I had the honor of flying to Antwerp, Belgium to hand-pick a diamond just for her daughter. I brought it back to the U.S. with pride, knowing this wasn’t just about jewelry, it was about relationships, stories, and legacy.

This Is Why I Love What I Do

Nothing makes me happier than stories like this.

It’s not just about the carats, the sparkle, or the price.

It’s about the people, the moments, and the memories we get to create together.

From a scared 26-year-old hustling through downtown L.A., to flying across the world for a second generation, I’m grateful for every step, every sale, and every woman who said “yes” to me when I barely knew how to say yes to myself.

Thank you for reading.

And thank you to every woman who has ever trusted me with her sparkle.
